Her inspiration for her music comes from Cara's personal struggle to conquer mental health issues as well as insomnia. Reuters stated that she calls her album "half chaotic, but half done". She found growth through therapy and advises people to seek help if necessary. Alessia Cara has been a Canadian artist since 1996. Her parents are of Italian heritage.
